In this webinar, we explore implications for admissions and registrars offices, share notable responses and case studies, and offer suggestions for how universities may respond to the crisis to best support their students.

Moderator: Margit A. Schatzman, President, ECE. Margit has been involved in international admissions and credential evaluation for over 35 years and is President of Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE). ECE is a non-profit organization that provides services in foreign credential evaluation, research and training in international education. ECE® Aid, the organization’s charity division, provides free credential evaluations for refugees and others in need. Margit believes that the work of international credential evaluation professionals will be increasingly important as we navigate a post-virus world in international education. She is excited to be a part of the TAICEP community of problem solvers and thought leaders. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in German and Geography, a Master of Science degree in Cultural Foundations of Education, and a Master of Business Administration degree, all from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
Subject Matter Expert: Garrett Seelinger, Team Lead / Senior Evaluator, InCred – International Credential Evaluations. Garrett is a senior evaluator for InCred, primarily working on secondary and undergraduate document evaluations with a focus on international student-athlete educational pathways. He is currently the Chair of TAICEP’s Resources for Members Committee, which includes producing the TAICEP Talk Newsletter. Garrett was raised in Morocco and England before earning his BA from DePaul University and his MA from the University of Notre Dame. He then joined the NAIA and helped launch their credential evaluation service, InCred.

What is the impact of the COVID-19 virus on Higher Education and recognition in a European perspective? How ENIC-NARIC centres are working to guarantee the continuity of services to citizens? What are the challenges that credential evaluators are facing now and will face in the next weeks/months to come? What resources can we rely on?
Luca Lantero, head of CIMEA, the Italian NARIC centre and President of the Lisbon Recognition Convention Bureau, will give an overview of the state of play in Europe and try to sketch some resources and tools to deal with the challenges that credential evaluators are facing in their job.
Bio
Luca Lantero is the Director of CIMEA, the Italian NARIC. He was elected in 2019 as President of the Lisbon Recognition Convention Committee and he is currently the Head of the Italian BFUG Secretariat. Expert in digitalisation and the use of blockchain in education, he has a lengthy experience in the field of professional and academic recognition and mobility programmes; the Italian Qualifications Framework; double and joint degrees; Erasmus Mundus; fake diplomas and accreditation mills; foreign HE systems and degrees and TNE institutions and accreditation.
Chiara Finocchietti is the Deputy Director of CIMEA. She is a member of the NARIC advisory board and National Correspondent for the Italian Qualifications Framework within the EHEA, and a member of various international working groups on higher education policies. She is author and co-author of several publications in the field of higher education on the topics of fraud in education and systems of education.

A team of experienced credentials evaluators want to share some of our favorite resources that you can access remotely. Presenters:
Peggy Bell Hendrickson has spent almost 20 years combining her love of international education with her need to create lists. She’s contributed to such publications as the NAFSA Online Guide to Educational Systems around the World, the AACRAO Electronic Database for Global Education (EDGE), the TAICEP Talk Newsletter, the 2010 AACRAO International Guide, the NAFSA Guide to International Student Recruitment, and others. Peggy has presented on country updates, secondary education, professional development, international transfer credits, researching international education systems, accreditation, electronic verification services, bogus institutions, and more.
Katerina Roskina of China Credential Services is the former NAFSA CEP Credential Evaluation Workshop Dean, a NAFSA 2019 and 2020 CEP Credential Evaluation Workshop Trainer, a conference presenter with extensive NAFSA National, Regional and state experience on credential evaluation, admissions and recruitment and international student integration subject matters, an active NAFSA Spotlight contributor on China-related topics. Her current leadership roles include the Chair-Elect of the Wisconsin Association of International Educators, a member of NAFSA Region V Leadership Team, and a NAFSA China MIG Vice Chair.
Margaret Wenger has worked at Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc., a non-profit credential evaluation agency, since 1990, currently holding the position of Senior Director of Evaluation. She has given workshops at a number of international conferences including NAFSA, NAGAP, CGS, and EAIE, and she chairs TAICEP’s Digital Student Data Task Force, as well as co-chairing the Groningen Declaration Network Task Force on Verification Policies and Best Practices.
Shelby L. Cearley currently serves as Senior Evaluator at International Education Evaluations, LLC. Previously, she worked in international admissions and recruiting at a university and a community college and also as an adjunct professor in Speech Communication. She is currently the Secretary for TAICEP. A graduate of the NAFSA Academy for International Education (Class IV), Shelby has presented several admissions- and credentials-related sessions at regional and national conferences and was chosen as a delegate for the 2007 Baden-Württemberg Seminar in Stuttgart, Germany. She served as the NAFSA RAP/admissions liaison from 2008-2010 and as the International Enrollment Management liaison from 2017-2018 and served as Coach for the Region III cohort of the NAFSA Academy of International Education for Classes VIII, IX, and X (2011-13) for NAFSA Region III. Shelby also is a member of the NAFSA Trainer Corps, and she served as co-credentials editor of the RAP Admissions & Credentials newsletter wRAP-Up from 2010-2012. She is a contributing author for the NAFSA Online Guide to Education Systems Around the World.
