Evaluating Post-Secondary Vocational Education and Qualifications: Common Challenges in Sweden and Norway
Representatives from Norway and Sweden will co-present on the challenges of evaluating post-secondary vocational education and qualifications… the wild west of post-secondary vocational education and qualifications. The presentation will highlight common features such as the commitment both countries have to support the integration of immigrants by recognizing their education/skills. They will also highlight the focus on the labor market rather than further studies when evaluating post-secondary education. Norway and Sweden share a flexible approach to recognizing vocational education (and qualifications), and this often requires thinking outside the traditional credential evaluation box. Finally, they will briefly share some information on the UNESCO World Reference Levels, which the two countries are piloting along with South Africa and Scotland.

It’s a Recognition World
The number of mobile students has increased from 1,8 million in 2000 to 7,0 million in 2020, and it is expected to grow even more in the next decade. For this reason, “it’s a recognition world.” There is a lot going on, in all the regions of the world and on a global scale. This session will examine current trends in the recognition landscape at a global level.

Digitalization and Blockchain
People move, and qualifications should move with them. Contemporary technology, especially blockchain, is a powerful tool to support mobility and recognition, and to allow simple, secure and certified use of digital credentials. This session will examine how blockchain presents a “student-centered approach,” maintaining “security and privacy with the holder of the qualification as the sole owner of the information.”
