Description: The number of tools available online for credential verification have proliferated in the past few years. Sometimes a tool is national database which allows one to verify all the university degrees awarded in their country. Other examples allow the user to validate an entire academic record issued by a specific school. The tools we encounter are as varied as the educational systems themselves and we find them from from all parts of the world. This session will introduce viewers to a variety of these verification tools, along with a discussion of how to incorporate these tools into your documentation and evaluation practices.
Presented by: Martha VanDevender, Senior Evaluator, Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). Martha Van Devender is a Senior Evaluator at Educational Credential Evaluators, with over a dozen years of evaluation experience. Her educational background in cultural anthropology and library science make her particularly well-prepared to do international education research. She has always been as interested in the resources we use as credential evaluators, as much as the credentials themselves. So it is unsurprising that when she started working remotely about five years ago that she began to focus on these types of online tools and to advocate for the policy changes that these tools enable. She looks forward to sharing this fascinating, and increasingly essential, aspect of credential evaluation with her friends and colleagues in TAICEP.
