He held almost every leadership position in the field over the course of his career, was instrumental in bringing people into the field and helping them develop professionally, published books and articles that were widely used, and was a well-known admissions officer and leader of that profession in the United States. He is 96 years old and resides in Cadillac Michigan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earned his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1972<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aerial Photographer U.S. Navy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was one of the founders of the admissions section (ADSEC) of NAFSA in 1964.&nbsp; He also served as ADSEC chair.&nbsp; He was the organizer and chair of the first NAFSA Workshop in 1965 (in Hawaii), where he was also the resource person for the Philippines section.&nbsp; This workshop set in motion the workshop series that evolved into JCOW and, later, PIER.&nbsp; Cliff was involved in the development of a series of publications in the 1960\u2019s and 70\u2019s that were widely used in the field.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Member and Chair of the National Liaison Committee on Foreign Student Admissions (the Council) in its early stages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wrote the Country Study for Norway published by AACRAO as part of the World Education Series<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vice President and President of AACRAO<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Executive Director of AACRAO<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Director of Admissions at both the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Representative from AACRAO to the NCAA<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fulbright Lecturer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Honorary member AACRAO<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cliff was one of the very early practitioners and leaders in the field of applied comparative education.
