TAICEP Special Alert: Advocacy Opportunity

Dear Members,

TAICEP is a global organization dedicated to advancing the field of credential evaluation. Our members are acutely aware of the impact of government policies worldwide on international student mobility and our shared profession. The relationship between regulation and our work is a critical area of focus for all of us, regardless of where we practice.

Recently, a significant regulatory proposal has emerged in the United States, serving as an important case study in this area. The U.S. federal government has proposed changes to the “duration of status” rules for nonimmigrant students. In essence, this could shift the current system to one requiring students to apply for extensions of stay within a fixed time period.

From a professional standpoint, such changes can have a direct impact on the individuals we serve and the institutions we support. They can influence everything from student timelines and administrative workload to the overall predictability of the academic journey for international students.

This development presents a valuable moment for both focused action and global learning.

For Our U.S.-Based Members and Institutions: The U.S. government has established a formal public comment period for these proposed changes, providing a direct channel for feedback. For those who may be directly impacted, you can review the full proposal and learn how to submit a comment via the Federal Register.

For Our Entire Global Community: This U.S. example highlights a challenge that is not unique to one country. To that end, we want to broaden this conversation and learn from your diverse experiences. We have created a brief form to gather insights from our members worldwide. Our goal is to understand the different regulatory landscapes in which we all operate and to share these collective insights with the entire membership.

Please share your perspective by filling out this form: Regulatory Environment Check

Your feedback will help us build a global knowledge base on this topic, providing valuable context for all members. By sharing these experiences, we can all become more effective advocates for our profession and for the international students we serve.

Thank you for your engagement and for contributing to our worldwide professional community.

Sincerely and on behalf of the TAICEP Board of Directors,

Pei (Peggy) Zhu

TAICEP President
